DIY Skincare Tips to Avoid

The number of people swearing in wonders from using DIY skincare tips has been rapidly increasing lately. Hacks like lemon juice and toothpaste are apparently healing common skin problems like acne bumps and dark spots. But the ugly truth behind these homemade tips is that they can actually cause more long-term harm than benefit.

Do Not Do It Yourself

  1. Lemon juice: It does have citric acidic, but the acid level is very high and can cause dark spots to appear after sun exposure. It can also irritate your skin and dry it out.
  2. Baking soda: At a pH level of 8, baking soda will stress your skin significantly and make it extremely dry, especially in the long run.
  3. Garlic: In raw form, garlic can cause skin allergies, eczema, skin inflammation, and watery blisters.
  4. Toothpaste: The ingredients in toothpaste may kill germs and absorb oil, but they can also harm easily irritable skin and make it very dry after multiple use.

Some of these ingredients may be all-natural and cost-effective, but they aren’t formulated for your skin. Even if you don’t feel immediate side effects, these ingredients can cause delayed issues or long-term damage. The best thing you can do for your skin is use scientifically proven skincare products.

But if you still want to try these skincare tips and hacks, the best thing you could do for your skin is to talk to your doctor or dermatologist before actually trying any of them on your skin.

It would make our lives easier if there was one universal ingredient for each sin type. One cure for all problems. But for now, the fact stands that every skin type is different and demands care specifically designed for the problems it encounters. Nurture your skin by giving it the care it craves and deserves.
